Welcome to Kernow Swing Dance!
Swing Dancing is a family of (mostly partnered) dance styles that are typically danced to swing music: think Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, or Benny Goodman. We tend to focus on the Lindy Hop, but we also dabble in Charleston, Blues, as well as vernacular solo jazz and tap steps. Swing dances traditionally emphasise rhythm, athleticism and improvisation.
Kernow Swing Dance is a Cornwall-based Swing dance group, run on an entirely voluntary basis. We aim to share our knowledge of swing music and dances. If you'd like to get involved with either DJing, teaching or just generally helping out then please let us know - we'd love to have you.
For our April theme, we're going to focus all of our classes on Swingouts: the defining move of Lindy Hop. Schedule is as follows:
7pm Improvers Class: you can swingout confidently with a variety of partners, and different tempos on the social floor. Last Wednesday of the month (April 30th) this slot will be all-levels vernacular jazz steps.
8pm All levels/Beginners Class: suitable for everyone, including absolute first-timers.
9pm-late Social Dancing: music from local DJs and a fully stocked bar!
Every Wednesday
Woodlane Social Club, Falmouth, United Kingdom, TR11 4RG
7pm - Monthly Special Theme: this is usually a loosely-linked set of Improver-level Lindy Hop classes, but sometimes something else. At the end of each month it's our All-levels Solo Jazz Special!
8pm - All-levels Lindy Hop: we'll take you through some basic steps, and get you out on the social floor, even if it's your first ever time. This is also a great class for more experienced dancers, as we'll share some technique ideas that you can play with to really focus on those fundamentals.
9pm until late - Social! This is the main point of all of our events! Drink at our fully stocked bar and dance your heart out to our volunteer DJs and occasional live bands. If you're brand new, we guarantee you'll be able to dance socially by the end of your very first class.
Pricing
£8 for the whole night, or £5 for just the social.
Dance passes: £25 for a full pass, or £20 for a social pass. Each dance pass can be used 5 times and has no expiry date.
At present we're accepting cash and bank transfer on the door. As we are a non-profit event, any income goes towards running costs such as venue hire and insurance, and then towards larger events.
Please note that our weekly events are generally 18+* as there is a bar in the venue. We encourage everyone to support the venue by buying something at the bar.
*Exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis - please contact us in advance.

N.B.: this is not an exhaustive list, but recommendations by the committee of events we think our dancers will enjoy - we can't guarantee 100% accuracy for events we don't run so check with organisers directly - if there's something you'd like to see listed, get in touch!
